Russian embassy receives no Bulgarian proposals for South Stream

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (PRIME) – The Russian embassy in Sofia has not received any official proposals from Bulgaria to restore the South Stream natural gas pipeline project, the embassy’s press officer Yevgeniya Suslova told PRIME Wednesday.

“We have not received anything regarding the issue,” she said.

In December 2014, Russia cancelled building the South Stream natural gas pipeline, which was supposed to carry Russian gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine, and decided to redirect all gas to Turkey through the future Turkish Stream pipeline.

Russia is ready to build South Stream if the European Commission and Bulgaria provide official guarantees, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in June. On Monday, Bloomberg reported citing Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov that Moscow and Sofia agreed to establish workgroups to resume cancelled energy projects including the South Stream.
